Travel Advisories
Understanding Travel Advisories are critical to navigating the world of international travel. It is always important to check travel advisories before planning or moving to any country. It is important to check travel advisories for each leg or path along your journey and not just your final destination. It is also a good practice to obtain knowledge of any critical past advisories and the reasons for those advisories, especially when considering to expatriate to another country.
There are four (4) key advisories levels to be mindful of when considering traveling or moving abroad. They are as follows:
1 This is the lowest travel advisory for safety and security risks. Be mindful, there's always some risk in traveling internationally.
2 Be aware of heightened risks to safety and security
3 Avoid traveling due to serious risks to safety and security
4 Do not travel. This is the highest advisory level due to the likelihood of life-threatening risks. During an emergency the U.S. government may have very limited availability to provide assistance.
United States citizens and residents are encouraged to signup and use the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to ensure the government is aware of your location in the event of an emergency or need of evacuation.
