By now, many if not all of us have often seen pictures and videos of travel, living abroad and other areas to describe the beauty (or lack thereof) in a particular destination, landscape, culture, perspective, and point of view (POV), providing insight to motivate, inspire, and influence others to see what we see.
This is part of what many of us do as travel consultants, influencers, advisors, agents, journalists and others in the travel and tourism industry. However, a great component of what is often not seen and understood is the experience, adventure, exploration. discovery, relationship building, emotions and much more that is often not photographed or captured in the lens of a video camera, phone or other equipment.
This is because what we do and experience is the essence of seeing, which goes beyond the iris and cornea of your eye. It is essentially the experience, adventure, and memory itself that can never be reproduced in its fullness the way it was experienced.
Beyond what we see physically is our world and how we perceive it.. It is our perception that makes any given picture, video, or commentary resonate with us in a particular way, be it good, bad, or indifferent.
This is why I find it important for us to see the possibilities that may be communicated via various mediums but never rely soley on them. These communcative platforms and methods often only captures a certain dimension, but allows us the opportunity to experience and establish our own understanding through the lens of our thoughts, mind, emotions, experiences, adventures, and spirit that is often difficult to share with someone else the exact same way you experienced it.
Creating these memories are worth far more than any picture, video or other tangible physical form of media to capture the moment. The moment we lose insight regarding this matter is when we fall victim to soley seeing and believing what others capture and convey to their audience, by not having our own.
Have you ever seen, felt, and understood something you wish you could capture via a picture, video or some other method but the moment passed and is no longer available to capture but you experienced it? Have you ever taken a picture or video but it really doesn't capture the beauty, sentiment, experience, adventure, and emotion that you sensed and felt at the time?
Photography and videography cannot capture sentiment, emotions, thoughts and feelings and is limited in capturing experiences and adventure, no matter how great the piece.
This is why it is important to experience destinations, adeventures, cultures, cuisine and mor for yourself. Your experience and adventure may be similiar to someone else's but it is a lot more personal to you because of the people you meet, the standards or requirements you may have, the food you eat and the person(s) you are with during these experiences.
I say all of this to say, while pictures, videos, blog posts, commentary and other methods used to communicate global travel and living abroad experiences, it is important to take the leap and experience these destinations, opportunities, adventures for yourself. As travel enthusiasts working in the travel industry, we too have to put down the camera and enjoy the moment.
There's a wealth of value in doing so even when discussing and comparing your experiences with others, which you begin to see and can often be different because of our individual requirements, standards, goals, mindset and character.
These exeperiences are internal and personal to you and are the unphotoghaphed and unvideographed experiences that mean the world to you. So, use the platorms of our videos, photos, and blogs/vlogs to inspire, motivate and assist you to create your own best experiences and adventures having your best life and share those with the rest of us. APPLIED KNOWLEDGE AND PERSPECTIVE IS EVERYTHING!
