Traveling is a Privilege

Traveling is a Privilege. It is a benefit, freedom, opportunity that everyone currently doesn’t have. It is an opportunity to not only enjoy the recreational and leisure aspects of traveling but also to learn, engage, interact, make a difference, travel with purpose, contribute to our global society and embrace the unique differences that contributes positively to our lives and the lives of others.

It has been stated, “Becoming aware of PRIVILEGE should not be viewed as a burden or source of guilt, but rather, an OPPORTUNITY to learn and be responsible so that we may work toward a more just and inclusive world.”

The knowledge, information and experience that comes from traveling and interacting with others is priceless and adds value to everyone involved. Using this privilege to spread positive energy, social impact and more is critical to fully maximizing the privilege given.

From personal experience, the best aspects of my life have come from traveling, interacting, engaging, and sharing with others and others doing the same with me. I wouldn’t trade any of it for anything. Yes, that makes me PRIVILEGED in this regard.

To be afforded the privilege and not utilize it is unfathomable to me, given my innate desire to travel and willingness to share and be open to various aspects of global culture. It is an honor to have such privilege when you utilize it for something good, more importantly something good outside of ourselves.

When I think about and speak to others who aren’t afforded the privilege of travel at this time, it disturbs me greatly when they want to enjoy the pleasures of travel but by no fault of their own, they are unable to do so. So, as things evolve and change in this world, I find it beneficial to have the conversations and share the experiences, knowledge, and information so that one day, they too can experience for themselves.

Let’s use our privilege to also do good in whatever form we can. By that I mean, patronize small local businesses, side street vendors, artists, and musicians on the street or by the waterside. Volunteer with a non-profit (NGO/NPO) or do something positive to leave a positive difference and social impact. By doing so I believe that we can all feel a sense of gratification by helping others while still spending leisure and recreational time for ourselves. This is when privilege is used for good. This also allows those who are beneficiaries of the privileged to work towards being a benefactor to now pay it forward through the same process.

There are other positive ways that travel can be used for good like our blogs / vlogs and more. Let’s hear what your thoughts and experiences are regarding utilizing the privilege of travel for good. Leave your comments in the reply of this blog post. It can assist us all to know and do more with our travel privilege. I look forward to reading your responses regarding your privilege to travel.
